Popular wasn't a prerequisite, categories were fluid, and contentiousness was
encouraged. Some of our critics turned in numbered lists, while those with
bullets preferred no particular order. Collectively, these choices give the lie
to the notion that there's nothing worth paying attention to in pop culture
